Fig trees should begin to produce fruit the year after planting. Some might even produce figs the same season!
Trees will produce best when planted in full sun and in well drained soil.
These fig varieties do well in USDA Zones 7-9.
When growing in zone 6 winter protection is recommened

Chicago Hardy Fig is know for its livability even in harsh northern climates.
Prolific northern producer often producing 100 plus figs from just one tree.
Once established can overwinter without much winter protection even in the Northeast (although I do cover mine every winter)!
Chicago Hardy produces medium sized, purple-brown skinned fruit. USDA Zones 7-9
Negrone or Violette DeBordeaux Fig is said to be the best tasting fig!
Negronne grows into a shorter, bush type formation making it ideal for pots in colder climates.
Large fruits have dark purple, nearly black skin.
Purple Sweet Fig

Figs are medium sized with a sweet, rich flavor.
